Studionorth is a multi-disciplinary creative enterprise with its own shop front gallery, workshop, meeting room and office space. The premises – a former off-licence – have been purpose designed to link exhibition space with making space and designing space. The studio provides a mixture of highly specific workspaces to cater for its occupants’ professional needs and a number of unprogrammed spaces that allow the creative project to expand beyond the disciplinary boundaries encouraging ad-hoc collaborations and skills exchange. Instead of internal doors, a series of curtains suspended from the ceiling act as room dividers and allow for flexible use of the space. Every architectural element is carefully chosen to serve a very particular purpose combining the new and the old, the reclaimed and the high-tech, the functional and the decorative.
