When the Olympic security fences were finally dismantled for the first time in London’s history, a sleepy suburban high street with an eclectic collection of local shops has attained a new strategic significance.

As the Olympic Village became re-populated, a constant stream of commuters started to enliven the pavements towards Leyton tube station. Our design for a series of public realm interventions and shopfront improvements was designed to help local businesses to share the benefits of these new opportunities. Micro Squares help to foster a cafe culture. An illuminated urban forest has transformed a dingy slip-road into a magic gateway. Painted walls have added a splash of colour to the neighbourhood, and a program of shop signage improvements have given vendors the opportunity to re-define the identity of their business.
