Stratford has been transformed in recent years and is continuing to develop at a rate unmatched by any other centre in the UK. The arrival of Crossrail will bring further relevant transport links to what is already the third best-connected public transport interchange in London. The Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park, which began to be re-opened to the public in the summer of 2013 has, together with Westfield Stratford City, firmly established Stratford as a visitor destination.

However, when venturing east towards the old town, tatty pavements, tired looking building facades and businesses turning their back on the high street mark the scene. This area, the St John’s Conservation Area and the Broadway which forms its historic heart, containing some of Stratford’s most vital cultural institutions and many of its most significant heritage assets.

Our town centre strategy for the Broadway and St John’s seeks to generate greater social and economic opportunities for the next decade. A rooftop orchard, shopfront improvements, a pocket park, a new business incubator and various public realm improvements will act as catalysts for the regeneration of the area. Two of our proposals won GLA funding and were implemented in 2014.
