City of Light

client: Blackpool Council

–

The City of Light project is building on Blackpool’s tradition of boldly displaying the latest innovations in light design and technology. Proposed are a number of catalyst projects to turn Blackpool into a centre of excellence in light design and sustainable power generation. These are: Museum of Light displaying the latest international ideas in light, Illuminations Experience displaying Blackpool’s light heritage from the 1st Philips Arc Lamp to the Rocket Tram, Illuminations and Transport Heritage Archive, Light Lab with incubator units for innovative businesses and artists working in light and 100 community built satellite projects in light scattered throughout Blackpool.

–

With the City of Light, the Blackpool Council aims to regenerate a now largely defunct industrial quarter of the city and link the seafront dominated by tourist attractions with the residential districts in the hinterland.
